Bertoncelj's darkly
humorous reflection on the
history and mythology of
Catholicism.
Picture this: It's the beginning of the 16th century, and the all-powerful Church
maintains the fragile social order by hunting down heretics with its militant arm, The Inquisition.

In our first episode, Sanctus Lupus, the simple
shepherd Lupus receives a call from God, and travels
to the Holy Land.  Along his challenging sojourn, he
reflects on the trials of St. Simeon Stylites the Elder,
and follows the path of solitude the saint has shown.
Even the Devil himself cannot tempt our hero from his
journey to enlightenment.  In the end, St. Lupus
disappears without a trace, leaving theologians to
surmise that he was taken to Heaven while still alive.
But, there may be trials in the desert more difficult to
defeat than the Devil himself.

In our second episode, Malleus Maleficarum (The
Witch's Hammer) our hero Lupus teaches his
apprentice, Rabbit, the finer points of using torture to
extract the confessions of witches.  But, those witches
are nothing but lying, treacherous whores, and Lupus
much reach deep into his bag of tricks to convince
them to admit their heresy.  It's a tough job, but
somebody's gotta do it.

In our third episode, The Witchscale, a young
woman accused of witchcraft travels far and wide to
find a measure that is just, and will prove she is
innocent of the accusation.  This naive, small town girl
treks across Europe, where she meets many different
people from many different cultures, and finds many
ways to earn her keep, before reaching the
Witchscale.  But, what will it show?  If the scale shows
her to be lighter than air, then a horrible fate awaits
her.
Only from the psyche of someone who endured years of Catholic education could such dark tales erupt.
Yet they are as funny as they are frighteningly historically accurate.  And there are many more to come!
